In this episode of The Natural High I unleash a chapter from The Occasional Drunk upon your unsuspecting souls.
In 2015 I wrote a book which charted my discovery of a better way to live, by having substantial periods of abstinence from alcohol.
We were weekend drinkers who worked hard in the week. But those weeks followed a similar pattern and that was cycle of our lives. We’d start Monday gingerly after a long weekend of festivities. By Wednesday we’d feel good again. And on Friday the cycle started all over again.
I wouldn’t describe us as having a drinking problem. But we got to the point where we wondered if booze wasn’t limiting us in some way; inhibiting us from fulfilling our potential and our dreams.
We decided to abstain from alcohol for six months in order to save up to buy a house in London. But that one decision to abstain for half a year had such a domino effect that, five years and three countries of residence later, we feel like completely different people with vastly more enjoyable and colourful lives.
You can find out more about the book by going to thenaturalhighclub.com/book but I wanted to share this chapter with you to give you a taster of our experiences and because I’m hoping that it may benefit you in the same way as it did us.
I’m not a doctor of course and I would strongly recommend that you seek medical advice if you’re seriously struggling with booze. But, for more moderate drinkers who are looking for easy gains in terms of wealth, weight loss, mental clarity, better sleep, more energy and better relationships, then I reckon you could do a lot worse than to give The Occasional Drunk a whirl.
