#24 – San Francisco, BLM and Special Friendships

Written by The Natural High

In this episode of The Natural High Club I speak with peerless photographer and great friend Chris Robledo about instant connection, BLM, San Francisco, red wine and flip flops.

We met in San Francisco in August 2017. I’d recently leapt into the unknown by moving to America. I was flying solo in a new city and wanted to engage with it as much and as quickly as possible.

On my first day in the city, I had all my valuables stolen in Dolores Park having been far too naive for this particular spot (sightseers be vigilant). On the second day, I licked my wounds and reminded myself that ‘it’s just stuff’ before setting out for an artwalk in the spectacular and vibrant gay quarter of the city.

I’d been told great things about The Castro by friends and wanted to check it out for myself. The artwalk, which comprised a boozy jaunt through half a dozen galleries, lent me the opportunity to sample some culture and meet some peeps.

Gallery number two was Spark Arts. I sauntered around this pleasant and cosy space for a while before bumping into an uber-friendly guy who housed all the giddy enthusiasm and zest of someone who’d just hatched. Even though we instantly clicked I still couldn’t have expected Chris Robledo to become such a great friend. Don’t get me wrong – he’s a pain in my ass. But I love him dearly and probably always will.

I didn’t feel the need to plan this episode at all because with certain friends the conversation flows so well that you could literally talk forever if you didn’t have to pee so desperately.

So sit back and enjoy my interview with the fascinating and lovely Chris Robledo.
